At Richmond House we strive to create a supportive, community of adults who thrive in a long-term residential living environment. Our admission process provides helpful information about our mission of creating an environment for our residents to live self-determined lives.
We, in turn, need to gather information about your candidate for placement in order to give you meaningful feedback. Criteria for admission to Richmond House are listed below. Residents must:

Be single and at least 18 years of age at the time of admission.

Have a diagnosis of learning disabilities, pervasive developmental disorder, high functioning autism, or Asperger’s Syndrome, etc.

Show evidence of psychological maturity and stability, with no history of destructive behavior, including a history of setting fires, or sexual offences.

Be ambulatory and able to climb and descend stairs.

Be functionally literate and have a high school diploma, GED certificate, or a certificate of high school completion/attendance.

Have the ability to dress, feed, manage hygiene needs, and other skills for self care.

Be capable of performing supervised activities of daily living such as cooking and household cleaning. Coaching and assistance are provided by staff.

Be able to manage, with support, own medication and other health related issues.

Be mentally healthy and free of substance abuse, serious behavioral problems, active psychosis, serious affective disorders, or depression, which are not being treated.

Have regular participation in, or be actively seeking, employment, supported employment, vocational training, educational programs, or volunteering in the community.
Have a commitment to personal independence.
- Be willing and able to comply with Richmond House policies and house rules.
- Have no prior criminal record.
The applicant and family/guardian will be scheduled to visit Richmond House and the applicant will schedule several days to stay at the house to learn if it is an appropriate place to reside. Richmond House staff will determine whether the individual will benefit from the community and the programs offered. Exceptions to the criteria may be made on a case by case basis.
Residential Services are provided to appropriate individuals without regard to religion, race, color, sex, or national origin. Richmond House provides a smoke free and alcohol free environment.
Upon admission, the individual will live at Richmond House for a three month trial period to ensure that there is a “fit” with the other residents and with the services offered. Residents wishing to leave the program must give 30 days notice.
